| After every day of angling- pull line from reel and respool the flyline onto the reel without any pressure so that the line doesnt hold memory. |

Intrepid Smallmouth and Largemouth Yellows
Join Intrepid Fly’s renowned guide Ian Couryer for some world class angling for both large and smallmouth yellowfish along the Vaal River system. The fisheries we target are from 1 – 2 hours from Johannesburg and make for ideal half day, one day or weekend excursions. With Intrepid Ian you will cover all aspects of fishing for these wonderful fish, including entomology, fly selection, leader setup and different techniques used to combat the ever present drag. The skills learned from your day/s on the river will not only improve your understanding of these fantastic fish, but give you the skills required to fish other rivers and species more effectively.
Intrepid Fly has access to superb venues and water on the Vaal River and some of its tributaries, allowing for exciting fishing all year round. |

Fishing for Yellows
Intrepid Fly caters for anglers of all levels and experience seeking full, half day trips and weekends away. For our half or full day drips, Intrepid Fly has access to superb waters just over an hour’s drive from Johannesburg. Intrepid Fly offers these trips 7 days a week, however we recommend weekdays if possible, due to the ever increasing amount of anglers on the Vaal River near to Johannesburg. For anglers seeking more time on the water and a bit more of a break, Intrepid Fly has access to a superb fishery just less than 2 hours away. We will guide and host you to a fantastic couple of days on water that holds some very large fish of both species.
This stretch of water we represent is extremely well managed, with its owners being active members of the Yellowfish Working Group (YWG). This society focuses on both the research and maintenance of healthy yellows and their environment, a task which is of utmost importance for both species. With this in mind, the farm owners have wisely placed a limit on the number of anglers per day on the available 7km’s of river. Due to this and the prime largemouth and smallmouth habitat on this section of the Vaal River, the chance of some trophy sized yellows is always on the cards.
To maximize our clients’ fish catching potential year round, Intrepid Fly has access to a number of two-man inflatables. These inflatables not only allow our clients a greater opportunity to cover more water in day, in winter and summer, but also give anglers the much needed flexibility when targeting trophy Smallmouth and Largemouth yellows. |

Accommodation and Catering
For anglers keen on spending a weekend or a couple of days pursuing some trophy yellows, Intrepid Fly has access to prime yellowfish water approximately 200km from Johannesburg. The venue is a fully functional eco-farm, with some of the finest yellowfish water on the middle Vaal. The accommodation for your experience is a comfortable farmhouse situated within earshot of the river. The house is extremely spacious, has three bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and “braai” facility. Not only does the farm play host to some fantastic fishing, but it’s birdlife is also exceptional. Fish eagles and Goliath herons are just two of the species one can expect to encounter during your session of fishing.
Intrepid will also cater for you or your party, thus allowing you to focus all your effort on landing your trophy. All soft drinks and water are provided ensuring you stay well hydrated throughout the day. Please note that Intrepid Fly does not supply alcoholic beverages, but feel free to bring your own. |
