Report
Recently
Intrepid Fly sent groups to, Mexico, The Amazon, Colorado
(USA), Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and around South Africa.
This month Intrepid Fly returned from their 2nd trip to Mexico
(Baja Peninsula) in search of rooster fish, bill fish and blue marlin
on fly. Though the conditions were testing, anglers were lucky to
land marlin around 220 - 250 lbs, some as big as 350 lbs, while
a few monsters were lost on conventional gear, estimated at 400
lbs. The roosters were thick in May and June but chased to deeper
water as temperatures rose in late July. The season boasted roosters
on fly up to 60 lbs, with many between 8 - 20 lbs being released.
This is one of the only regions one can target them on fly from
the beach. Intrepid fly remains the exclusive agent to the best
lodge and outfitter in the region.
For
3 years Intrepid Fly has been enjoying great success with
groups targeting peacock bass and other interesting fresh water
species in the Amazon (Brazil). Having exclusivity to the
top operator in the Amazon has benefited our clients who have been
releasing anywhere from 220 - 1300 peacocks per group, per week
with a number of peacocks over 20lbs being released. Suited to fly
and conventional lures, these fish are a must for any angler especially
for the aggressive surface strikes. We provide a range of options
to target these peacocks throughout the year with budget and comfort
in mind.
Prior to our trip to Mexico, Intrepid Fly visited the Rockies
in Colorado in search of renowned trout amongst some of the
world most famous rivers. With huge success we covered a few sections
of The South Plate and The Colorado, while also getting into some
lesser know tributaries. Species raised were primarily rainbows
and browns; however luck brought on a few cutbows (cut throat /
rainbow). The rivers were crammed with anglers while the larger
fish remained the wiser. Each day bore success with many trout between
22" - 26" being released. We explored a number of excellent
"beats", good places to stay and hooked up with talented
guides. This is a must for enthusiastic trout fishermen.
Intrepid Fly continues its trips along the Zambezi.
The huge amount of rain at the beginning of the year got many lodge
owners excited, promising a good season with large fish. Such has
not necessarily been the case for the trophy tigers; however the
bream have made good sport for many guests. The high water levels
have produced vast amounts of bait fish and leave us hopeful for
20 pounders in the months to come. Intrepid Fly continues to run
trips from a private lodge on the middle Zambezi near Tiger Mile
while continuing its services in Chorra Bassa (Mozambique).
Intrepid Fly sent a few groups to the Bazaruto Archipelago.
As always in Mozambique, the conditions have been a lottery. Wind
has affected most of the trips, limiting the number of days at sea.
The winter months have brought on some good bill fishing over the
canyons, raising numerous fish and landing sailies on fly between
25 - 45 kgs. The earlier months accommodated warm water and continued
to produce GT's up to 30 kgs. With consideration to our recent trip
to Mexico, we feel that if you are prepared to travel a long distance,
this is an alternate bill fishing destination.
